Nurture: the process of caring for and encouraging the growth or development of someone.

We have an opportunity to nurture our loved ones by intentionally watching or looking for what is good, great, and wonderful about them.  Nurturing requires purposely developing a mindset of asking “what’s right about you” instead of what’s wrong.  By focusing on what’s good, great, or wonderful, and then acknowledging these qualities, we become inspirational, more intimate, more influential, and an encouragement to our loved ones.

Four ways of doing this are by expressing your acceptance, appreciation, admiration, and amazement to loved ones.  Here are a few examples:

  • Acceptance: Loving them who they are right now, not whom you want them to be.
  • Appreciation: Look for all the little and large things they do each day and thank them consistently.
  • Admiration: Taking on the world each day takes courage, perseverance or patience, which are very admirable virtues.
  • Amazement: Look for the opportunity to see and share the wonder of what’s right with the world.

Be mindful to communicate “What’s Right About You.”  Each day look new unique and practical ways of expressing appreciation, admiration, and amazement to your loved ones.  Be creative by using different combinations of words, pictures, video, events, gifts, or actions that nurture and strengthen their self-worth.
